In response to revelations about Devon County Council in Private Eye magazine, the SWRDA wrote to clarify their position. This is a letter from issue 1141 (Sept 2005)
Original sin
Sir
As an avid Eye reader, I am always amazed at the apparent level of conspiracy in public
affairs but being a realist, wonder if my colleagues in the public sector are really up to
it! Now that my own organisation has featured in your August Journal (in one of the August
editions!!), I have concrete evidence that life is not always as Machiavellian as your
excellent journalism suggests.
Down on the Farm implies that the missing document came
to light as a result of an FOI request. The reality is that we did not have the original
document and the FOI request that revealed it was to the council.
A case of poor administration for which I have already apologised to Mr Campbell in March
2004.
Yours faithfully,
NICK LEWIS
